Sharmila Jagadisan earned her Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Madras University in 1999 and obtained her M.C.P (Masters in City Planning) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 2001. After her post-graduation she received her PhD in Planning from the School of Architecture and Planning, University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2009. Her Phd title is “Extending Ekistics Theory and practice to the 21 st century”. She is also a Professional member of the World Society for Ekistics since 2005.

Sharmila Jagadisan is an academician to the core for the past 12 years and has been an educator since her post graduation. She had worked as an Associate professor in various architectural colleges in Mumbai and Chennai. During her PhD programme (2004-2009) she worked as a Tutor and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the planning department at the University of Auckland. Dr Jagadisan undertook a range of tutoring especially in major first and second year studio classes (221 and 122), a fourth year Planning course 404: Sustainable Development and marked studio assignments. She also assisted with dissemination of findings from a major New Zealand government-funded research project (Planning Under a Cooperative Mandate). She also worked as an architectural consultant for ONEbyN architectural design firm between 2012 and 2015.
