The school design adopted a systematic approach with MONTESSORI EDUCATION as core curriculum in teaching. The main objective of the design was to make the students understand the user needs and provide design responses, to nurture the sense of proportion of the built environment. The ability to perceive, understand and represent fundamental attributes of form-space with respect to human experience and use was given priority. The design study was approached with the case study of “Abacus Montessori School” at Chennai, designed by Architect Laurie baker. Literature studies with respect to school design gave students an exposure to functional approach methodologies. Two different sites, Pallikaranai&Avadi were given to the students for the school design. The Montessori curriculum itself aided the students to explore the form – space relationships in design.
